This summer I’ll be working with DePaul and the Chicago Housing Authority on a 6-week program that teaches high schoolers from CHA communities hardware design and development skills ranging from soldering, to 3D modeling, to programming. The six week program will culminate with students developing a near space balloon that they'll launch into the stratosphere to collect environmental data and snap photos of our Earth.

Most importantly, the workshop aims to marry two things that have -- until now -- not been joined to my own satisfaction: the art of making, and the process of design. My partner-in-crime in this effort, LeAnne Wagner, and I have put a lot of time into analyzing critical practice in this field, and sampling from older schools of thought that can inform our own new approach. I hope the program will begin to explore some of these problems.
