This was a global event I conceived of after seeing a news article about college students who tracked a near-space balloon using a cell phone. Hackerspaces from around the world sent up balloons and measured various information which was used to judge their balloon launch. The event received press in MAKE Magazine, Evadot, and got the attention of the then-head of Google’s X-Prize.
The event was mothballed after a few years of running, but more contemporary iterations have popped up. I’m currently engaged in a NASA grant that was (in part) inspired by this event.
