I developed a partnership with the engineers and managers on Caterpillar’s Peoria facilities to teach them rapid prototyping practices, design thinking, and developing objects for the Internet of Things. In addition to developing the relationship, I wrote the curriculum for the program and taught it. Groups spent about 16 weeks learning the basics, then ideating on their own projects which were ultimately presented to senior management. The culmination of the project resulted in an estimated potential savings of nearly a million dollars in yearly operational budget for Caterpillar’s facilities.
This certificate was subsequently built into a recurring program for prospective students to DePaul and a continuing education program. The estimated impact to recruitment at DePaul was a dramatic increase in the conversion rate of prospective to applied students.
