This badge was done in collaboration with a student consulting group that I direct, as well as my friends Rudy Ristich and Nathan Matteson, and was my first work for the Thotcon hacker conference. The game design for the badge was influenced by classic roguelike games, chess/checkerboard themes, and a broader concept of “hypercubes.” Players navigated a maze on a 2D plane, but occasionally “punched through” the plane into additional planar dimensions. The design of the badge and the game itself were popular enough to get picked up on Hackaday.
In addition to designing the games that went on the badge, I played a critical role in programming the badge’s firmware.
